Detroit US Atty Sees Rising Fraud At Labs, Hospices

Law360, New York (April 13, 2015, 1:41 PM EDT) -- Prosecutors in Detroit are warily eyeing evidence of mounting health care fraud involving laboratories and hospices, even as they continue making strides against rampant overbilling by home health agencies, the city’s U.S. attorney tells Law360.

Barbara L. McQuade, who was joined in an interview by several of her top-ranking lieutenants, cited molecular diagnostic testing by labs and end-of-life care for terminally ill patients as two “emerging and current threats” to Medicare and Medicaid in the Eastern District of Michigan, which has long been a hot spot of health care fraud.
