Travelers, Web Design Co. Settle Bank Data Breach Battle

By Daniel Siegal (April 14, 2015, 7:51 PM EDT) -- Travelers Casualty and Surety Co. has settled with a web design company it accused of negligently maintaining a community bank's website and allowing hackers to steal bank customer information in 2012, according to a stipulation filed Monday in Illinois federal court.

Travelers, as the assignee of Northern Illinois' Alpine Bank, had alleged the studio breached its duty of care to Alpine Bank by not maintaining the website in a condition appropriate for a bank website and not adequately encrypting bank customer data, among other things.
