Texas House Approves Bill Blocking Local Fracking Bans

By Paul DeBenedetto (April 17, 2015, 3:34 PM EDT) -- The Texas House of Representatives on Friday passed a bill that would would bar cities from passing fracking bans similar to one enacted last year in Denton, blocking 10 amendments introduced by Democrats seeking to protect some municipal authority in regulating some underground oil and gas activity.

In a vote of 122-18, the House passed H.B. 40, sponsored by Rep. Drew Darby, R-San Angelo, which would expressly preempt cities and other political subdivisions from regulating oil and gas operations and limit their ability to enforce setback rules that prevent wells from being drilled within a certain distance of schools and homes....
