Judge Orders Apex Oil To Clean Up Contamination

Law360, New York (July 30, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has ordered Apex Oil Co. Inc. to remediate soil and groundwater contamination in Hartford, Ill., at a cost that could top $150 million, the U.S. Department of Justice said Tuesday.

On Monday, Chief Judge David Herndon of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois found that Apex was liable for the remediation in Hartford under the endangerment provision of the federal waste management law, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
