N.J. Ethics Office Settles Sex, Race Bias Suit

Law360, New York (July 30, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- New Jersey's Office of Attorney Ethics has agreed to pay three of its female lawyers $150,000 to settle claims that the office used a “caste system” to keep female and minority investigators in low-paying and low-ranking positions.

The plaintiffs filed the suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey in March 2005. They reached a settlement in March 2008, but the agreement was not publicly disclosed until July 24.
