FDA Warns Against Mexican Serrano Peppers

Law360 (July 31, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has linked the ongoing salmonella outbreak in the United States to serrano peppers and irrigation water from a farm in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and has advised American consumers to avoid all raw serrano peppers from Mexico.

The FDA said Wednesday that samples from the farm contain a strain of salmonella with the same genetic fingerprint as the strain implicated in more than 1,200 salmonella cases in the United States.

The finding came as part of an ongoing investigation, the FDA said....
