California Ushers In Bill For Temp Workers

Law360, New York (July 31, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A bill has passed in California that will change how often temporary employees are paid by staffing agencies, but some defense attorneys worry that this law may place new burdens upon employers that regularly use temp workers.

The measure, which attempts to resolve uncertainty over payment obligations following a July 2006 California Supreme Court ruling, requires that temporary service agencies pay temps every week instead of every other week and pay temps daily when they work for a client on a day-to-day basis.
