Former Defense Secretaries Call For Fast-Track Passage

By Alex Lawson (May 8, 2015, 5:44 PM EDT) -- A bipartisan collection of former U.S. Department of Defense secretaries and retired military leaders on Thursday called on Congress to promptly approve a bill to reinstate the White House's Trade Promotion Authority, joining a growing list of officials from administrations past to support the closely watched legislation.

Passing the TPA renewal bill, also known as fast-track, will help the Obama administration promptly wrap up the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership talks and, later, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership negotiations with the European Union, two deals that the officials said carry not only substantial economic benefits but national security ones as well....
