July Surge Suggests Shifts In Ch. 11 Landscape

Law360 (August 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- With the credit crunch and mortgage meltdown still in full swing, the number of Chapter 11 filings continued to climb in July, putting 2008 on track to set record highs since the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act first became law in October 2005.

An estimated 786 new Chapter 11 filings nationwide took place in July, according to recent figures released by the Automated Access to Court Electronic Records, marking a slight increase from June's 769 figure — and a big jump from previous years....
