Settlement Reached In Patent Dispute Over Enzyme Blends

Law360, New York (May 12, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a development that ends several long-running patent disputes, Takara Bio Inc. and Stratagene Corporation have reached an agreement pertaining to enzyme blends used in polymerase chain reaction, or P.C.R., technology.

The companies had been doing battle in a Maryland federal court as well as the U.S. Trademark and Patent office.

La Jolla, California-based Stratagene Corp. and Takara Bio—which is headquartered in Shiga, Japan—nipped potential future conflicts in the bud by putting in place a cross-licensing deal for the patents in question. The only payments involved...
