Medtronic, Others Hit With Cutting Tool Patent Suit

Law360, New York (August 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Thermal Scalpel LLC targeted a slew of medical device companies Thursday in a lawsuit that accuses Medtronic Inc., Boston Scientific Corp. and 10 others of infringing a patent covering an electrically heated surgical cutting tool that can cauterize tissue as well as make incisions.

Newport Beach, Calif.-based Thermal Scalpel filed its complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas against a dozen defendants, including Smith & Nephew Inc., C.R. Bard Inc. and Covidien Ltd.
