AGs Urge FDA To Improve Dietary Supplement Regulation

Law360, New York (June 2, 2015, 5:11 PM EDT) -- The New York and Indiana attorneys general on Tuesday urged the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to immediately step up its oversight of the dietary supplement industry and strengthen its enforcement.

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller told acting commissioner Dr. Stephen Ostroff in a letter that the agency’s dietary supplement current good manufacturing practices regulations need to be reformed, laying out four areas for improvement. The letter follows cease-and-desist letters sent by Schneiderman’s office to retailers after a study commissioned by the state attorney general found that labels for herbal supplements didn’t match...
