Patient Wins $4.5M In First Wright Hip Implant Trial

Law360, San Francisco (June 12, 2015, 7:38 PM EDT) -- A California jury on Thursday ordered Wright Medical Technology Inc. to pay $4.5 million to a metal hip implant patient and his wife after finding that his implant was defective and caused him harm, capping the first trial among 1,200 cases claiming Wright's hip implants are shoddy.

The jury agreed with patient Alan Warner's allegation that the hip implant he received contained a manufacturing defect, and that the implant's failure injured both Warner and his wife. However, they didn't find that Wright was negligent in designing the Profemur R implant.
