Refco Examiner's Investigation Delayed

Law360, New York (May 23, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Former Justice Department prosecutor Joshua Hochberg was supposed to start investigating fraud at collapsed brokerage firm Refco Inc. two months ago, but the launch of his investigation has been stymied by Refco’s creditors committee, which has raised questions about his exact role in bankruptcy court.

The former chief of the Justice Department’s criminal fraud division was appointed manager on March 22. His job is to probe any wrongdoing or mismanagement that preceded the brokerage’s bankruptcy filing last year in cooperation with investigations by U.S. prosecutors, regulators...
