Judge Tosses Malpractice Suit Into Bonfire

Law360, New York (May 24, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A malpractice suit against Edward W. Hayes, who was the model for defense attorney Tommy Killian in Tom Wolfe’s “The Bonfire of the Vanities,” has been thrown out by a federal judge in Manhattan.

U.S. District Judge Deborah Batts dismissed the case because the plaintiff had not demonstrated that Hayes’ alleged misconduct had an impact on the 2004 ruling that inspired the malpractice claim.
