Texas Settles Pollutants Lawsuit For $6.5M

Law360, New York (August 26, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- LyondellBasell Industries has agreed to pay $6.5 million to settle allegations that two of its subsidiaries repeatedly failed to prevent the release of harmful pollutants into the atmosphere at seven petrochemical plants in Houston and along the Gulf Coast.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott accused Equistar Chemical and Millennium Petrochemicals Inc. of releasing harmful emissions, including volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide, into the atmosphere over a long period of time, in a lawsuit filed in 2006.
