Mattel Wins $100M From Bratz Maker

Law360, New York (August 27, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A jury has awarded Mattel Inc. $100 million for damages related to copyright infringement and employment contract interference in the patent catfight between the Barbie doll maker and MGA Entertainment Inc., the maker of Bratz dolls.

The outcome was far less than the $1.8 billion Mattel reportedly sought from MGA, largely because the jury did not find the infringement to be willful and did not assign punitive damages.
