Calif. Moves Closer To Ban Of Toxins In Food Wrappers

Law360 (August 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The California State Assembly has passed legislation that would ban food packaging made with chemicals that may cause cancer and birth defects just a week after the bill was nearly defeated in a slightly different form.

On Wednesday, the Assembly voted 42 to 29 in favor of Senate Bill 1313, which would amend the state's health and safety code by barring the manufacture, distribution or sale of food containers that contain certain perfluorinated compounds in any concentration over 10 parts per million.
