Exxon Unit Hit With Class Action Over Pa. Gas Royalties

Law360, Philadelphia (July 15, 2015, 4:40 PM EDT) -- An ExxonMobil Corp. unit was slapped with a putative class action in Pennsylvania federal court on Tuesday alleging it had bilked landowners in the state out of royalties they were owed under lease agreements handing over rights to natural gas below their properties.

The suit accused XTO Energy Inc. of failing to honor language in leases the company acquired from Phillips Production Co. and its affiliates in 2011 that barred post-production costs being deducted from royalty payments the landowners were promised under the agreements.
