APEC Readies Talks on Common Patent System

Law360, New York (October 15, 2003, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Member states of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum have agreed on the terms for starting negotiations over a common system of patent licensing, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported, citing government sources said Tuesday.

Under a common system, a patent granted by any one of the patent offices of the 21 member states and regions of APEC would be valid in all of them, according to the newspaper.
