University Of Iowa Claims Amgen Infringed Patents

Law360, New York (September 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The University of Iowa has sued Amgen Inc. for allegedly using the school's patented biotechnology to produce drugs including the cancer therapy Vectibix and blockbuster rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis treatment Enbrel.

In a complaint filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa, the university accuses Amgen and subsidiary Immunex Corp. of infringing two patents for a CMV promoter, a biotechnology tool used in recombinant protein production and gene therapy protocols.
