Jury Puts Blue Coat On Hook For $39M In Finjan IP Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (August 5, 2015, 5:14 PM EDT) -- A California federal jury on Tuesday found that Blue Coat Systems Inc. infringed five patents held by Finjan Inc. covering Internet security technology and awarded the cybersecurity company $39.5 million in damages.

After a two-week trial and about six hours of deliberation, the jury found that four of the six patents asserted by Finjan were infringed while another patent was infringed under the doctrine of equivalents. The jury also determined that Blue Coat failed to prove the patents were invalid as anticipated.
