Judge Nixes Ill. City's Polluted Harbor Suit

Law360, New York (September 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has tossed a suit alleging several companies are liable for the cleanup of toxic chemicals in Illinois' Waukegan Harbor because the statute of limitations has expired.

On Monday, Judge Matthew F. Kennelly ruled against the city of Waukegan in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The judge said the six-year statute of limitations had expired for the remediation of polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, which have long polluted Waukegan Harbor.
