Chevron, Calif. City Hit Over Refinery Expansion Plan

Law360, New York (September 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Three environmental groups have sued Richmond, Calif., over its decision to grant a Chevron Corp. subsidiary permission to expand a local oil refinery, which the nonprofits allege will increase greenhouse gas emissions by at least 898,000 metric tons annually and disproportionately affect minority working class communities nearby.

Communities for a Better Environment, the Asian Pacific Environmental Network and the West County Toxics Coalition filed suit over the project in the Superior Court for the State of California on Sept. 4.
