E.U. Telecom Industry Pushes For Less Regulation

Law360 (June 7, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Union should scrap competition regulations imposed on telecommunications firms by its Media Commission and instead allow the continent’s antitrust laws to regulate the bulging industry, according to Europe’s top executives.

The executives, who represented the E.U.’s top 25 telecom companies in a newly-minted task force, urged the E.U.’s European Commission to phase out current regulations to address current trends.

Current regulations force the telecom rivals to share infrastructure with upstart firms or provide wholesale connections at lower prices, according to the group.
