Spokane Resolves Sewer Conflict With Sierra Club

Law360, New York (September 15, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In an effort to avoid litigation with state and federal environmental protection agencies, the city of Spokane, Wash., has entered into a consent decree with the Sierra Club to resolve alleged Clean Water Act violations related to repeated dry weather sewage overflows into the Spokane River from the city's aging sewer system.

The Sierra Club filed a lawsuit against the city on Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, but only as a formality in order to lodge a proposed consent...
