Becton Dickinson Poked By Syringe Antitrust Suit

Law360 (June 9, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Medical technology company UltiMed Inc. has filed an antitrust lawsuit against its embattled rival, Becton Dickinson & Co., accusing the much larger company of barring competition in the market for home-use insulin syringes.

The complaint targets exclusionary contracts allegedly used by Becton Dickinson to prevent pharmacies from offering insurance discounts to consumers of non-Becton Dickinson syringes—typically used by diabetics.

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, the lawsuit is similar to several antitrust complaints filed against Becton Dickinson in 2005, as well...
