Family Tells Fla. Jury Tobacco Cos. Caused Smoker's Death

Law360, Los Angeles (August 24, 2015, 7:12 PM EDT) -- The family of a smoker who died of lung cancer urged a Florida jury Monday to find R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and Philip Morris USA Inc. liable for his death, saying during opening arguments that the companies had engaged in a campaign of deception that hid the dangers of smoking from him.

The family's attorney, Gary Paige of Gordon & Doner PA, told the St. Petersburg, Florida, jury that smoker Douglas Duignan smoked one or two packs a day since he was about 12 years old....
