Experts Divided On Benefits Of AIG Bailout

Law360, New York (September 17, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Experts are divided on how the $85 billion government bailout of American International Group Inc. will affect competition in the insurance industry and the role of the United States in promoting free markets abroad.

David Steuber, co-chair of the insurance recovery practice at Howrey LLP, said the bailout will help AIG pay claims and operate under its current policies, but that competitors would likely step in and try to take over policies that are up for renewal.
