Asarco Mulls Flexing NAFTA Muscle To Block Sale

Law360 (September 26, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Copper mining giant Grupo Mexico may turn to the North American Free Trade Agreement to help in its battle to prevent the hotly contested sale of bankrupt Asarco unit.

On Thursday, Grupo Mexico revealed that it might invoke NAFTA to prevent Asarco, currently in bankruptcy, from being sold to Sterlite Industries Ltd.
