Supreme Court Smokes Cubatabaco's Appeal

Law360 (June 19, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In what could be the final word in a trademark dispute that’s lasted almost ten years and stretched across national boundaries, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a petition to review a lower court's ruling granting U.S. ownership of the brand name “Cohiba” to tobacco company General Cigar Co. Inc., over the objections of state-owned Cuban company Cubatabaco.
