Law360, New York (September 30, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- It only took a few days for discussions about a potential multi-billion dollar government “bailout” package for Wall Street to include calls for restrictions on executive pay and severance packages.

No one yet knows the details of what steps the Treasury Department may end up taking, if any.

But this outcry is merely the latest chapter in the continuing effort by Congress and other government authorities to rein in what many view as excessive compensation.
