SEC Mum On Possible Extension Of Short-Selling Ban

Law360 (October 1, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- On Thursday at midnight the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's ban on short-selling certain stocks – most notably those in the beleaguered finance sector – is set to expire.

"The commission hasn't indicated one way or the other whether they'll extend the ban," SEC spokesman Kevin Callahan said Wednesday, adding the decision may not be made public until after markets close on Thursday.
