Fla. AG Sues Merck To Recover Vioxx Payments

Law360, New York (October 1, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Florida's attorney general is suing Merck & Co. Inc. to recover Medicaid reimbursements and other payments state agencies made for the painkiller Vioxx, claiming the pharmaceutical giant hid crucial information about the drug's adverse effects.

In a complaint field Tuesday in Leon County Circuit Court, Attorney General Bill McCollum said Merck's marketing campaign promoting Vioxx to the state Medicaid program as a safe painkiller violated the state's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.
