Sandal Maker Accuses Famous Footwear Of Stealing Designs

Law360, New York (October 9, 2015, 3:43 PM EDT) -- Famous Footwear was hit with a suit Friday in Texas federal court accusing it of ripping off the Bernardo fashion brand's distinctive sandal design and selling the knockoffs extensively throughout the U.S.

JPT Group LLC, which owns Bernardo, said Famous Footwear parent BG Retail LLC willfully infringed on its patents by contracting with suppliers to have the knockoff sandals manufactured in China and then distributing them for sale in the U.S.

"Rather than undertaking its own independent development, Famous Footwear copied Bernardo's innovative designs, violating JPT's valuable intellectual property rights embodied by Bernardo branded products," JPT said.
