FCC Launches Review Of Media Ownership Rules

Law360, New York (June 21, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Federal Communications Commission voted on Wednesday to revisit its media ownership restrictions, in what is likely to turn into a contentious debate over the amount of media outlets large companies are allowed to control.

The Commission plans to take a closer look at a rule that prohibits companies from controlling a newspaper and a television or radio station in the same market. It also plans to consider whether broadcasters in more cities should be permitted to control more than one television station.
