Suit Says Crestor Infringes Teva Patent

Law360 (October 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a twist on the familiar story of generics makers being sued to protect the market for brand-name drugs, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. has accused AstraZeneca PLC of infringing a Teva patent through its sales of the billion-dollar cholesterol drug Crestor.

Teva filed the lawsuit on Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, naming AstraZeneca, AstraZeneca UK Ltd., AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP and Puerto Rico-based AstraZeneca unit IPR Pharmaceuticals Inc. as defendants.
