Severstal Settles Allegations Of PCB Violations

Law360, New York (October 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Severstal Sparrows Point LLC will pay $107,500 to resolve allegations from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that it improperly stored and disposed of polychlorinated biphenyls at its Baltimore steelmaking facility.

The EPA said Wednesday that the company had agreed to pay the civil penalty as part of a consent agreement resolving claims that it violated regulations designed to protect public health and the environment from toxic PCBs.

A spokesman for Severstal North America in Dearborn, Mich., could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday.
