I-9 Audits Experienced Steep Drop In Recent Fiscal Years

By Allissa Wickham (November 2, 2015, 9:43 PM EST) -- Government inspections of employers' I-9 forms dropped by more than half between the 2013 and 2014 fiscal years, and the downward trend doesn't appear to be slowing, according to statistics provided by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The number of I-9 form inspections plummeted from 3,127 in the 2013 fiscal year to 1,320 in the 2014 fiscal year, according to data sent to Law360 by an ICE representative on Oct. 22. And while the agency didn't provide complete statistics for the 2015 fiscal year, ICE said only 360 audits had been conducted by June.
