Dick's Sporting Goods Settles FTC Charges

Law360, New York (October 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Dick's Sporting Goods has agreed to settle charges alleging its subsidiary, Golf Galaxy, illegally agreed with potential competitor Golf Town Canada Inc. to allocate the market for golf merchandise in the U.S. and Canada.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission said Thursday the company had entered into a consent agreement rendering the noncompete provision in the agreement unenforceable, opening the door for competition between the two retail chains. The consent agreement did not impose a fine.
