Commissioners Wrangle Over E.U. Roaming Rates

Law360 (July 5, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Two European Commissioners have raised concerns that new rules aimed at reducing European mobile roaming fees may impede competition among mobile phone operators.

Peter Mandelson, the commissioner for trade, and Gunter Verheugen, vice president of enterprise and industry, have cast doubt on the hotly debated plans to reduce fees that Europeans pay to make mobile phone calls while abroad, claiming the excessive rules could hurt mobile phone operators such as Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile.
