Faith-Based Hiring May Not Block Grants: DOJ Memo

Law360 (October 20, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Federal programs subject to anti-discrimination laws can still give grants to religious groups that make faith-based hiring decisions, a recently disclosed 2007 U.S. Department of Justice memorandum says.

The memo, quietly posted on the agency's Web site last week where it was discovered by the New York Times, agreed that a $1.5 million grant to the Christian group World Vision Inc., a group with a stated policy to hire only Christian staff, could be allowed.
