Law360, New York (October 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- U.S. regulators should be wary of the competitive effects that may arise from the emergency mergers that have spread across the financial services industry in recent weeks, the American Antitrust Institute said Tuesday.

While acting swiftly to assuage the current economic turmoil, government agencies should be careful not to hastily approve any transactions that could reduce competition in the industry once the financial markets regain stability, the group said.
