Kraft Settles Coffee Pod Patent Suit For $17M

Law360 (October 24, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Kraft Foods Global Inc. has agreed to pay $17 million to settle a patent lawsuit with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. subsidiary Keurig Inc. over single-serving coffee pods.

Keurig filed the lawsuit in January 2007 in the U.S. District Court of Delaware, alleging that Kraft’s Tassimo line of coffee products infringes a disposable filter cartridge patent covering single-serving beverage pods.

Kraft spokesperson Bridget A. MacConnell said the company decided to settle to “avoid the costs and uncertainty of litigation.”
