Qantas, BA Face Aussie Court Over Freight Cartel

Law360 (October 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Australia's competition watchdog has launched separate actions for damages against British Airways PLC and Qantas Airways Ltd. over their alleged roles in a global air freight cartel, after reaching out-of-court deals with the airlines on penalties.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said the two carriers were the first to be taken to federal court in Sydney because both came forward voluntarily, made admissions under the agency's cooperation policy and were continuing to provide investigators with information in their ongoing probe.
