Fiber Optics Titans Clash Over Cable Patents

Law360 (October 29, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- AFL Telecommunications LLC is suing rival fiber optics titan ADC Telecommunications Inc. for infringing three patents related to fiber-optic cables.

The complaint, lodged Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, claims ADC Telecommunications makes and sells fiber-optic cables that violate patents, the earliest dating back to 1993, that AFL holds over the technology.

AFL, a subsidiary of Fujikura Ltd. of Japan, claims ADC makes a variety of optic cables and routing devices that infringe U.S. Patent Numbers 6,813,422; 5,666,453; and 5,222,179....
