Securities Suit Drives Brooke Corp. To Ch. 11

Law360 (October 29, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Kansas insurance agency Brooke Corp. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, just weeks after a breach of contract and fraud lawsuit led to a special master's appointment to run the company.

Brooke filed its petition Tuesday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Kansas, and a hearing on its emergency measures was scheduled for Wednesday morning. Brooke Capital Corp., another unit of Brooke Holding Inc. and a focus of the lawsuit, was also a party to the filing.
