Miami-Dade Advances Regulation To Make Uber, Lyft Legal

Law360, Miami (January 20, 2016, 10:19 PM EST) -- Ride-hailing companies such as Uber and Lyft won a significant victory Wednesday in Miami, as county commissioners advanced favorable legislation to allow them to operate legally following the board chair's unexpected withdrawal of a much stricter proposal.

By a 10-2 vote, with Chair Jean Monestime and Commissioner Dennis C. Moss in opposition, the board supported a long-awaited ordinance addressing the popular new app-based services, which critics hold have have been operating illegally in the county since arriving nearly two years ago.
