Senate Judiciary Committee Passes Trade Secrets Bill
Law360, New York (January 28, 2016, 7:15 PM EST) -- The U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary on Thursday passed the Defend Trade Secrets Act, which would clear the way for companies to bring a private right of action alleging trade secret misappropriation in federal court, a move that its sponsors say will prevent businesses from losing hundreds of billions of dollars from trade secret theft annually.
Sens. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Chris Coons, D-Del., who spearheaded the legislation, urged Congress in an op-ed published in The Hill on Thursday to pass the bipartisan bill, which has garnered support from both legislative branches.
