Vodafone Cries Market Abuse, Demands €500M

Law360, New York (July 17, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- British mobile operator Vodafone has fired off a €500 million lawsuit at Italian rival Telecom Italia SpA, alleging the company has abused its dominant position in the Italian telecom market.

Vodafone has alleged that Telecom Italia provided Telecom-TIM, its wireless arm, with information about its fixed-line subscribers, which allowed the wireless company to offer the customers wireless deals.

The suit also alleges that Telecom Italia has been offering discounts to Vodafone customers in an effort to woo them away from the British company.
